Don't Forget about the Fun

Can you believe it’s already August?!

As summer continues to fly by, I have been busy planning my wedding celebration, starting new projects and working on this business! I am so grateful that all of these things are happening in my life.

But the truth is, I’m not sure how any of these things will turn out. And I’ll be honest- even the things I want to do the most sometimes feel like a drag. Between all the planning, preparation, work and goal setting for the future, it’s easy for worry to take over.

And I think part of that is because sometimes I forget the fun.

I think I don’t have time for fun. I think I need to accomplish more before I can have fun. I think I need to make a certain amount of money before real fun can be had. I think I even need to look a certain way to have fun. I think I need to get things done before I can give myself permission for fun. I think I need to save fun for some future experience. I think if I have fun now, I won’t be able to have it later.

Can you relate to any of these thoughts?

And then I remember being a kid. When I was a young child, it was so easy to have fun. Fun was everywhere and in every corner! It didn’t matter what I had or where I was. I could create fun anywhere and anytime.

Adventure was waiting for me.

It was so easy to have fun.

My imagination unlocked the door to all things fun.

But somewhere along the way I started defining fun as a specific situation rather than simply part of the adventure. I rejected seeing fun in certain circumstances while sensationalizing fun in others.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to wait to have fun until some future circumstance. Despite challenges, obstacles, what has happened in the past or what will happen in the future, I believe we were made to have fun now. And having fun means showing appreciation for life!

What if all I need to do to have fun right now is to remember that child-like sense of fun?

Maybe it starts by asking: How can I feel more fun in my life right now?

To me, fun is feeling more alive in who I am and what I am doing in this moment. It’s feeling connected, creative and refreshed. It’s feeling joy.

So for today, in this moment, I’m making a conscious choice to have fun. Let the adventures continue..

Wherever you go and whatever you do this August, don’t forget the fun!

Love, Michele
